The Timex T5G971 accurately tracks and records average heart rate, maximum heart rate, calories burned, and the target heart rate zones. Included in its manual are supplemental exercise instructions which can help you create these heart rate zones. Apart from the heart rate zone data, you can also program your weight. This will allow the T5G971 to calculate number of calories burned during exercise. That’s important if you want to know if you can have an extra piece of cake after an exercise session.
The INDIGLO night-light illuminates the surface of the watch dial with a patent blue electroluminescent light. According to Timex, this technology consumes less battery power than a conventional backlight. We can’t confirm that, but we can say that it looks cool.

Simple..perfect
It's cheap. It's easy to use. It gives me my heart rate. It's a Timex. Perfect.
Defective unit?
Our relationship started out OK for the few first days. Then it start to go south. The readings were not right. I decided to replace the battery it the chest strap. It worked fine...for a couple of day. Then is stopped working again. I'm returning it and upgrading.
Lots of reasons to like it
There are a lot of reasons to like this Timex:
- Most importantly, it works. Everytime I check my heart rate (with the old finger to the neck method) it matches exactly.
- It's not complicated to program
– You get to pick your zone. Some watches pic the zone for you. You can pick your own zone with this one.
- You can replace your own batteries
- And best of all, it's cheap.
Who Da Thunk It
Who Da Thunk a cheap HRM would be fine. I've had 3 other HRMs. This one is easy to use and it seems to work fine. I've had 3 other heart rate monitors. This one is the best.
Too small
If you wear a jacket over a 44, don't get this. The chest strap won't fit.
